The Evangelical Magazine [1793‑1812] and its successor, The Evangelical Magazine and Missionary Chronicle [1814‑1912] represent an important record of modern Congregationalist and Anglican church history in the United Kingdom. Surviving print copies are now hard to find and often in poor condition, making them extremely difficult to access. To date there is no freely available and searchable digital version of this important publication. As part of the work of the free online theological library, Theology on the Web, I am planning to digitise the entire 119 year run and upload it to biblicalstudies org uk. This website already hosts a growing collection of similar 19th Century denominational magazines and journals, many of which are not available anywhere else online. Evangelical Magazine was founded as an interdenominational Calvinist alternative to the Arminian Magazine. Published monthly* and priced* 6d, the Evangelical Magazine was established by well-known Congregationalists and Anglicans, with the first editor* being an Anglican, and the second, George Burder, a Congregationalist.
